Subjective Anatomy

Subjective Anatomy and Physiology, via ancient and avante guard technologies.

Vipassana Meditation is at least as old as the Buddha. Sometimes called mindfulness meditation, it is the practice of paying attention, noticing, or inventorying one’s direct experience via body sensations, feelings/emotions, witnessing mental and subtler states of being. There are many techniques for this practice. A fundamental one is to concentrate and steady one’s attention on the breath, on the sensations of body movements, or more focused on the sensations of air moving in and out of the nose, sinus and throat. When the mind is trained to stay steady, the attention can be systematically directed throughout the body. There are limitless benefits to this practice, including accelerated healing, improved performance, emotional integration and mental self-mastery.

We currently have technologies that can measure the effects on muscle tension and brain wave activity.

I envision integrating these technologies for learning subjective anatomy. For anyone, it would provide a training device with direct feedback for this difficult practice, making the benefits widely available to all. For the competitive athlete, it generates a learning advantage. For medical practitioners, Doctors, Nurses, Massage therapists, Acupuncturists, and so on, it provides a multi-sensual method of learning Anatomy and Physiology. The greatest advantage of this method of learning over the rigid mental memorization traditionally used, beyond being a more effective method of learning, is that it is Subject rather than Objective. It facilitates empathy and makes for exponentially more effective ‘bed side manner’, decreasing the likelihood of malpractice suits, and increasing the quality of care.

I imagine the guided programs would follow traditional scholarly texts books. Layers of details could be controlled interactively. Even young children could play with this as a game, accelerating their learning to use their bodies. Brainwave monitoring could provide helpful feedback to keep the practitioner on track. Speed and rhythms could be adjusted to invoke chosen states of mind for receptivity, alertness, retention and so forth.  Pressure point inducers within a suit could isolate specific muscles, small electric currents, as in a tens unit, might also be used to focus attention on the actions of individual muscles and muscle groups. Via collecting this specific level of data from expert level athletes, and communicating via this ‘suit’ average people can quickly learn a level of extraordinary performance.

Via Acupuncture and chakra maps ordinary people can become aware of subtle energies and their movements in their own bodies, the interaction of hormones and emotions on a biochemical level, enabling self-healing and self-mastery.
