I’ve just made another Prezi. It’s on I.5-I.11. I don’t love it. It doesn’t flow quite right, but it’s something. Useful for some chats, and showing how YSP is like a russian nesting doll.

Hey Look! I made a nifty Prezi for you!  The sutras are built for a bit of tech. You can use it with your yoga students on a screen, or one on one with a mobile device. Great conversation piece!
It’s Free! Please use it and share

After comparing and contrasting more than a dozen vetted Sanskrit translations, Kailas Lea Peace wrote this interpretation. It’s designed to be an easy read, all in English, almost no commentary. This is so you can address your own thoughts, feelings and experiences in relation to the aphorisms directly.

It’s a handy size, fits in your pocket to carry along as a ready companion for when you find yourself waiting for something, or for when you need some existential insight. You can speed read it to see how the ideas thread together and you can linger on individual sutras or on groups. They are carefully arranged to visually facilitate comprehension.

For the most part, I stayed true to the literal translations. In the classical versions there is privileged duality in reference to Prakriti and Parusha that is really hard for most women to digest and misleading for most men. I took some literary license by neutralizing genders and by translating the God stuff as nature and spirit.

“I have studied the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali for over 40 years and find many translations stay true to the depth of the sutras but are very cumbersome to read. Other more westernized versions simplify the teachings and lose the true meaning and depth. Ms. Peace’s interpretation, “Yoga Sutras by Patanjali” is the rare work in which the author translates a profound ancient text in a clear, understandable way while keeping the depth of the teachings. She also does not add her own personal interpretation but sticks to the sutras themselves, allowing the reader to enjoy the magical flow of the sutras and allow the deeper meaning to be revealed. I recommend it to all of my yoga students with wonderful results”

“Kailas’ book on the Yoga Sutras is well researched and the interpretation of the sutras integrated from a variety of resources. She has worked to make the aphorisms gender neutral and yet has maintained their original meaning and depth. It is small enough to be travel worthy or to fit into a pocket, making it readily available anywhere for a moments meditative reflection.”

“I really like the clarity, sparseness and order of this book. I love the contradictory feel of holding such a small book that also houses such huge insights and inspiration.  I applaud the research, study and distillation of meaning that Kailas brings to this new translation of Patanjali’s ancient text.”
